The setting for practically every mob movie you've ever seen!
& why it made the Carpe City list
Mulberry Street Bar, which dates to 1908 (under the name Mare Chiaro,) looks like old-school Little Italy from whence it sprang. All the original pressed tin on the ceiling/walls, and subway tile floor mystique has made Mulberry Street Bar a hot spot for filming. “The Godfather III,” “Donnie Brasco,” “The Sopranos,” and “The Pope of Greenwich Village” were all filmed here.
The bar’s other claim to fame is that it was Frank Sinatra’s longtime hangout. They still play a lot of Sinatra on the Jukebox. Yes, they still have a jukebox.
These days, they do decent “pub grub” and still sling cheap beer, but Mulberry Street isn’t what it used to be. Since Little Italy has become a carnival of touristy red-sauce joints – if you’re going to swing by Mulberry Street Bar, do it on a weekday. You’ll get a slightly more local crowd.
Two fingers of Jack Daniels, 4 ice cubes, and a splash of water.
