One of the Best Omakase Spots in the City with an Unbuttoned Vibe

About Shuko

& why it made the Carpe City list

  • FOOD – Creative and delicious, Shuko is a standout in a city of standout sushi options.
  • ATMOSPHERE – The subtle unmarked entrance leads you into what feels like a hip private dinner party with great music and a festive vibe.  There are a few tasty omakase spots where I love the food but feel like I can’t have a proper conversation with my fellow diner without having to whisper.  Shuko is not this place.  Cool, fun and upbeat but still not really a place for groups.  They actually have a couple of tables and the rest of the place is the sushi bar.  They do offer a private dining room for 4-8 people.
  • WHO/WHAT IT IS GOOD FOR – Date night, impressing a client, a special intimate birthday or anniversary celebration or basically a top place to take anyone who loves sushi.
  • BEVERAGE SITUATION – An extensive selection of Japanese whiskeys and sake and a nice wine list with a small Coravin section if you want to have a taste of a really phenomenal bottle.
  • SUGGESTED EATS/DRINKS – You have choices for beverage pairings and add ons. Order add ons at the end if you still have room.  As far as the beverage pairings, they are always fun to do and make your evening of decision making far less challenging.  I am always 50/50 on pairings at any restaurant.  It all depends on your dining companions and your willingness to tackle the beverage menu on your own.
  • INSIDER TIPS – Sit at the bar for sure.  Be prepared for a big bill but Shuko is a special place.  It is not an everyday place, but in our opinion, it is totally worth it.
