Caveat Intelligent Nightlife

About Caveat

& why it made the Carpe City list

  • If you are culturally curious, you will enjoy Caveat.
  • In this subterranean performance space, you will find comedians and PhD’s, poets and biologists, astrophysicists and authors, all performing, presenting and chatting about random topics from the philosophy of Kant to the intelligence of an octopus.
  • They have a wide variety of shows and many are one-offs. If you like this type of thing, get on  Caveat’s mailing list because many of them sell out.
  • They have a decent-sized bar with a limited selection of craft beer, wine and cocktails.
  • For being in a basement in the Lower East Side, Caveat is remarkably roomy, welcoming and clean.
  • The vibe is relaxed and festive, with most shows encouraging audience participation.
  • The entrance is behind a nondescript door and then down a flight of stairs. Every time we’ve been, people have been lined up for the show, so it’s not hard to find.
  • Why the line? Because it is open seating. You can see the stage from all seats, but arrive early if you want your pick of the litter.
