One of our favorite dive bars chock-full of history has upgraded itself to a cocktail destination
A long-standing popular East Village dive bar recently upgraded to a proper cocktail lounge.
The bar has a storied history of attracting intellectuals, poets, writers, musicians, and radicals.
Figures like Allen Ginsberg, Leon Trotsky, W.H. Auden, The Ramones, Madonnahave all raised a glass here.
Holiday still retains a bit of its dark and divey St. Mark’s vibe but with a more polished look and sophisticated cocktail list focused on local ingredients.
Check out the harem mural they unearthed during the 2012 renovation. It harkens back to the days when the place was a burlesque cabaret. The horseshoe bar and vintage wooden phone booth are also originals that the new owners kept in the renovations.
It’s a good spot for groups or early drinks with a date.
They have a small menu of decent bar food. Check out the Donut Cuban Sandwich.
