Excellent Homestyle Thai with an Equally Awesome Outdoor Garden

Wayla Lower East Side Thai Meatballs

About Wayla

& why it made the Carpe City list

  • FOOD -Thai street food that looks way too good to ever spring from a food truck.
  • ATMOSPHERE – Festive and hip, it’s a hot spot, and the bright, airy garden patio out back is a fabulous respite from the busy city streets.
  • WHO/WHAT IT IS GOOD FOR – Wayla is great for impressing a date; it’s good for groups and also weekend brunch.
  • BEVERAGE SITUATION – Delicious drinks. Unique and creative. Small but thoughtful wine and beer selection.
  • SUGGESTED EATS/DRINKS – Try one of their cocktails; definitely get the Moo Sarong, which is their noodle wrapped meatballs. Other standouts for our tasting team included: Sai Oua (housemade sausage), Khao Pad Pu (crab fried rice), and the Sen Chan Pad Lobster.
  • TIPS – The signage is minimal. Walk down the stairs and into the basement to enter. Sit outside if available. Some of the tables outside are communal, so be prepared to have tablemates. It’s popular, so attempt a reservation. They save many of the tables for walk-ins. Fortunately, Wayla is not a bad place if you have to sit at the bar and wait for a table.
