A Destination for Natural Wine with a Laid Back Atmosphere & Great Oyster Happy Hour

Ten Bells Natural Wine Carpe City

About The Ten Bells

& why it made the Carpe City list

  • One of the pioneers of the natural wine movement in NYC.
  • Known for their extensive selection of “minimal intervention” wines by small producers, Ten Bells is a destination bar for those in the know. (It’s also a great local wine bar for those not obsessed with the distinctions between bio/organic/natural/etc.).
  • Ten Bells is inconspicuous. Enter by one of two doors on Broome Street and you will find a low-key horseshoe bar stocked with a fabulous selection of wines by small eco-conscious producers.
  • The atmosphere in the main bar is dark except on good weather days when the doors are open. There is outdoor space in the back as well as on the street.
  • The vibe is relaxed, and the staff is super knowledgeable.
  • It’s a nice spot for a date and is also good for groups. We love the big table and space in the back for private parties.
  • It can get crowded, but they do take reservations for parties of 4 or more.
  • Oyster happy hour is a highlight, and their small bites, cheese and charcuterie are more than enough to make a meal.
  • Check out the chalkboard for by-the-glass options and specials, but if you’re in the mood for more than one glass, be sure to take a look at the extensive bottle list.
  • On weekends, Ten Bells opens at 3 pm which makes it an excellent spot for a leisurely post-brunch beverage.
