About Bowery Mural

& why it made the Carpe City list

One of the more famous murals in the city, the Bowery Mural got its start in 1982 when the famous pop artist Keith Haring chose this corner for his first large-scale mural. The mural was purchased by real estate mogul Tony Goldman who engaged famed gallerist Jeffrey Deitch of Deitch galleries in Soho to curate the artwork. Goldman passed away but his company still retains ownership and The Hole Gallery currently curates the artwork.
