Dog Friendly Long-Standing Neighborhood Dive with an Extensive Beer & Spirits List

About DBA

& why it made the Carpe City list

  • Dog-friendly, great beer and brown spirits selection & real rock ‘n’ roll
  • One of the few bars in the city that allows dogs INSIDE the bar
  • Part of the reason it is dog-friendly is that they don’t cook any food. They do however offer pickles and popcorn.
  • Even better, you can bring in your own food, and Little Frankies is only a block away. (Some other nearby tasty and easy options are Caracas Arepa Bar, and just south of Houston, the Cheese Grille and the Meatball Shop.)
  • DBA was one of the first proper beer bars, before the start of the craft beer bonanza, when most bars were still serving Amstel Light as their main “imported” beer.
  • Besides beer they have an extensive whiskey collection.
  • Overall atmosphere is decidedly divey with a seasoned staff who know their beer and spirits.
  • There is a nice-sized garden in the back with a no-frills picnic table scene where you might find a few meetups with pups during the day.
  • The music is solid old school rock.
  • On weekdays, happy hour runs until 9pm.
