The famous abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock lived here with his brother and sister-in-law in the 1930’s while studying at the Art Students League. 46 was Pollock’s lucky number!
- In 2014, his top-floor apartment sold for $1.46 million and measures 800 sqft.
Most famous for drip paintings, on view at MoMA and The Met, Pollock revolutionized painting by redefining what it means to create art.

Pollock painted spontaneously with nontraditional methods and materials as if he were inside the painting. He was central to the abstract expressionism movement.
- This genre is about the process of creating and not about the final product. Other notable abstract expressionists are William de Kooning, Franz Kline, Mark Rothko, and Pollock’s wife, Lee Krasner.

Jackson Pollock baked prize-winning apple pie!

Even though Pollock didn’t try spaghetti until he was 18, he was a great cook. His apple pie took first place at a contest near his home on Long Island.

Pollock wasn't the only famous person to live in this building

The building once belonged to Aaron Burr, who killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel!
