An Eclectic & Inventive Daily Tasting Menu & Great Natural Wine Selections

Contra Lower East Side Tasting Menu

About Contra

& why it made the Carpe City list

  • Talented chefs consistently turn out a delicious and original tasting menu at a good value
  • Contra is one of the few spots in NYC where you can comfortably wear a hoodie while enjoying a world-class, 7-course tasting menu.
  • Contra’s narrow dining room is chic and minimalist, and the vibe is relaxed downtown cool.
  • The under $100 tasting menu consists of New American cuisine with a regularly changing roster of seasonal and local ingredients.
  • We love the talented chef duo Jeremiah Stone and Fabian von Hauske’s creative sensibilities. We are always surprised by what they will pair together and make delicious.
  • For veggie lovers, they offer a vegetarian tasting menu as well. Just be sure to note it on your reservation.
  •  The wine list is another standout with a focus on natural wines from small, low-intervention producers.
  • The small 6-seat bar in the front is first come, first serve. You can order the full tasting meal, or get a pared down 3-course bar tasting, or a dessert tasting.
  • If there is no space at the bar, you can also try Contra’s fab sister wine bar, Wildair, next door.
