A Top Contemporary Art Gallery Housed in Historic Orchard St Digs

Perrotin Gallery NYC Lower East Side

About Perrotin New York

& why it made the Carpe City list

  • Perrotin is a world-class art gallery with locations in NYC, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo.
  • Founded by French gallerist Emmanuel Perrotin, the exhibitions at the Lower East Side location are always presented in an innovative way throughout the entire building – all of which is owned by the gallery.
  • Perrotin’s roster includes contemporary artists spanning photography, sculpture, mixed media and painting, and are all known internationally.
  • International pop art heavyweights Takashi Murakami and Maurizio Cattelan (of Toiletpaper magazine fame) exhibit at the gallery as does French street art sensation JR.
  • The unique gallery space is housed in the historic Beckenstein building and still displays the exterior signage of the Beckenstein fabrics and interior decorating company which opened in 1920 when Orchard Street was the heart of the United States’ fashion and textiles industry.
  • Beckenstein fabrics, which started over 100 years ago with a pushcart on Orchard Street, is still going strong in its new location in the Gramercy neighborhood.
